FIFA 13 line producer, Nick Channon explains the effects of FIFA 13 first touch control and shows us how it effects different situations out on the pitch in the latest of EA SPORTS’ videos.

“First Touch Control rebuild is one of the biggest changes we’ve ever made to FIFA”

For FIFA 13, EA SPORTS have completely transformed the way players control the ball. You’ll now really have to think about the attributes of the player your using and anticipate how good their first touch is going to be.

First touch control creates a lot more separation between the ball and the player and you really have to start thinking more like a footballer.

When defending you’ll have to make quick decisions on whether to try to bring the ball down and risk it getting away from you other whether to take no chances and hit row Z.

You’ll have to read the attackers first touch too and try to use any poor touches to your advantage.

Attackers will look to capitalise on defenders mistakes and steal possession at any opportunity.

First touch control in FIFA 13 is sure to create some great battles for possession (but probably also cause a few controllers to be thrown out the window).

Defensive pressure, trajectory of the ball, and velocity of the pass all factor into how well a player will control the ball.

So what do you think? Is more realism a good thing or will lack of control frustrate the hell out of you?

At first i was very dissapointed with the highly anticipated Fifa 13. I was a master of Fifa 12, and it was nearly impossible to beat me (playing against buddies, and playing Legendary mode with the computer).

When i played Fifa 13, i found it very frustrating as i lacked ball control and found it very difficult to find space and skip pass defenders.

Fifa 12 to me was the best football game of all time and i really didnt think it could get much better than that. Am I mistaken? Or must i still get used the Fifa 13 game play and try to master that crucial first touch?

Same for me, I find the early hours spent on the game very frustrating.

I’m quite confident though that I’ll get round to it and will able to overcome the challenge and that once it’s done it’ll be awesome (after all it would kinda suck if all versions were too similar and not bringing any novelty).

If you look at both games now, I would say Fifa13 makes Fifa12 pretty much look like an arcade game.

haha, you deluded Fifa Fan boy. Fifa 12 was utter crap. You obviously have never player football before!! I got to division one in 10 tries,( Meaning I never really remained in the same division as I always got promoted. I had a ridiculous WDL rate( 80-9-8) and still thought the game was shocking. Fifa 12, like Fifa 08 is too unrealistic and so buggy..

You guys really are idiots, same as most Fifa fan boys

I agreee. Player AI is utterly crap. I was playing with Real Madrid and i got scored on by my friend who was playing with Valencia. I cleared the ball and he randomly shot from his half with Banega and the ball somehow defeated Casillas. Also defenders tend to fall down down frequently and at the worst possible time just by tripping on other players. Also counterattacks never feel lyk counters since players simply refuse to run even if there is an open lane. And let’s not mention the crap goalkeeper AI. I got scored on by a cross because Joe Hart refused to punch the ball or grab it and decided to chest it into the net.

That’s how it was for me, but I learned how to use first touch to my advantage and realized it’s way better!

I am having the same problem. I consider myself a good player in fifa 12. But in 13, I am frustated as hell. I can’t control the ball. When I pass the ball, the player can’t control it. When I play long ball, the player chests it towards the opponent’s defender. My players sometimes tangle. Among themselves and fall down and I just can’t play attacking football. And is it me or something else, I just don’t get foul calls. Hope to improve but I like 12 better. 13. Is too much realastic for my liking

Fifa 13 is a joke on manager mode teams just defend and play long balls
there is a delay b4 your player follows an instruction usually taking an extra touch before hand

Plz explain how this is realistic when nearly all premier league players have a good touch 85% of the time they receive the ball.

also how can you score many goals when finess from outside area is now retarded and the computer always has 10 men in the box
especially since most players can’t control first time passes?

THIS FIFA IS A UTTER JOKE I AM GONNA THINK TWICE B4 BUYING 14

I made the jump from FIFA 11 to 13, so I can’t really comment on guys saying 12 was the best. But I’m liking FIFA 13 so far. The first touch can be utterly frustrating, but I love that realism. I’m all for it, and hope it continues with future releases
