Ever bought a player that you thought was going to be great based on their overall (OVR) FUT rating but turned out to be a flop on the pitch? We all know that FUT’s overall rating can be a bit misleading at times so who are really the best players in FIFA 13 Ultimate Team?

Z Rating System Explained

I found the overall rating system FIFA used was a little misleading sometimes, and that players were “praised” for having a high attribute rating for things that weren’t important for their position. This made it difficult to find the true best players in FIFA 13 Ultimate Team.

While online resources exist for searching for players, their stats search is definite; by that I mean your search may include a player with a minimum speed and finishing of 80. If a player has 95 finishing but only a speed of 79, you will miss the player that would presumably be worthy or your consideration based on your search.

I deemed an averaging of the relevant stats gave more constructive results.

Use The Z Rating To Find The Best Players In FIFA 13 Ultimate Team For Each Position

All the general positions are split into different tabs (e.g. a generic Full Back rather than left and right back, but you can filter from there) and I’ve devised my own rating system.

FIFA Autobuyer
Each position(s) (CB, FB, CDM, CM, CAM, LRM_WING, CF_ST) has 4 primary attributes I have deemed to be the most important, and 5 secondary attributes that are worthy of consideration, but not as vital as the primary 4.

I have taken are average of the primary 4 and added 20% and averaged the secondary 5 and minus 20%. I have then averaged these 2 scores to give a “Z Score” that goes along side their FIFA rating.

I found this useful for looking for cheaper players that were less desirable due to their lower rating.

You can filter for the specific Nationality, League or Club to meet your FUT needs.

While I understand this is purely based on my perception of the stats and in some way is a personal preference of the way I play; the figures can be quite interesting.

I am happy to listen to feedback and alter the way the stats are constructed if you deem other characteristics more pertinent.

Notes:

  • The following information is taken from the standard database of the PC version of FIFA 13
  • FUT positions can be slightly different along with a couple of ratings
  • Players may appear on these sheets that are not available on FUT, e.g. Quaresma and Drogba
  • The “Pace” stat is an average of sprint speed and acceleration
  • Use the “Positions” tabs at the bottom of the sheet

Awesome table, Ewan. I’m not sure if I agree with all your choices for “top 4” and “secondary 5” attributes for each position, but I guess it depends on each person’s style of play.

Nevertheless it’s a great tool to see which players are overrated/underrated. It makes me want to make my own formula that I can use when building my teams! Cheers.

i too would like those spreadsheets if i can get them

  2. Ewan Currie November 5, 2012 at 8:56 am

Cheers PK. I can give you the raw spreadhseets and show you how to formulate your own rating system if you’d like.

    • PK November 5, 2012 at 6:13 pm

Sure, it would be fun to fool around with it

    • Steve Brookes November 6, 2012 at 10:27 am

This is awesome Ewan.I only play with bronze could you give me the raw spreadsheets and how to formulate my own rating system. This is exciting.

      • Ewan Currie November 9, 2012 at 11:58 am

Steve, I’ll email a link to a file that has a filter on the Fifa “Overall” stats so you can then filter for players who are only bronze. Leave it with me

      • Ewan Currie November 9, 2012 at 1:04 pm

There are now filters on all columns. To see only bronze players, click on the Overall column, select number filters, then less than and put in 65.

Could I also get a copy of the spreadsheet? its so useful!
Or maybe you could make the file downloadable?

  3. Rory Mcgowan November 5, 2012 at 4:33 pm

Thanks Ewan i really like this table i was wondering if you could send me the raw spreadsheets so i could define the attributes that define the Z score to heading, strength, tackling etc for defenders and have a unique Z score system for each position in the game. i think this is a great idea and i think it would be great to for people looking a building teams.

    • Ewan Currie November 9, 2012 at 11:56 am

Hi Rory, I am happy to do this for you and send you a link to the modified sheets. Can you let me know what you would like changed?

    Nice.

    Cheers From Rio de Janeiro.

  5. John Wilson November 6, 2012 at 11:41 pm

Its a nice table some players i knew were better than there rating and a few that i will need to try looking at this, am not sure it works that well for strikers i dont find longshots that important and some players get hammered for it i.e Matri who is great in the game. But great effort and really useful so thanks!!

  6. John Wilson November 6, 2012 at 11:46 pm

Not sure how this would affect ur scores but if u swapped positioning for longshots it might show how players are at ST and comparing the two scores from there might show wht players are better ST and which are better CF’s. Hope that made sense.

    • Ewan Currie November 9, 2012 at 1:06 pm

Hi John, thanks for your feedback. I have e-mailed you a link to sheet with your desired information. Let me know if I can help with anything else.

  7. Ewan Currie November 7, 2012 at 9:17 am

Thanks for all the feedback. John I will send you a link to a spreadsheet with your request (Matri moves from a 76 to 79). I am working on the other requests for the raw spreadsheets so please bare with me. Cheers.

  8. Rob November 7, 2012 at 4:51 pm

Great table, really useful. Could I trouble you to email me the spreadsheet with the raw data please? I’d like to alter it slightly based on how I play, for example the sliding tackle stat is not of use to me as I tackle pretty much exclusively with the contain buttons. Thanks, much appreciated.

    • Ewan Currie November 9, 2012 at 11:55 am

Hi Rob, I am happy to do this for you and send you a link to the modified sheets. Can you let me know what you would like changed?

    Hey,

Nice Table but something is wrong with your Heading/Jumping Column I think….

    • Iltisanni November 8, 2012 at 11:57 am

      At the CB Position

  11. Sam November 8, 2012 at 1:25 pm

Hey buddy great work. Miccoli was always good, I knew it. Can you please tell me what is the z score of In Form Miccoli.

    • Ewan Currie November 9, 2012 at 11:54 am

Sorry I don’t have access to the stats for in form players.

  12. Iltisanni November 9, 2012 at 11:36 am

Where did you get all the players and stats from? I wanted to add the correct heading stats for cb position but you have much more players in your table than http://ultimatedb.nl/ for example has….

    • Ewan Currie November 9, 2012 at 11:52 am

“The following information is taken from the standard database of the PC version of FIFA 13” – I had to extract the data from big files included with the game, and then import into excel and did a lot of work to pull all the information together.

I think you’re right, I have made a mistake with the CB Heading/Jumping stat. I will correct this this morning for you.

      Thanks for your input.

    • Ewan Currie November 9, 2012 at 1:08 pm

Once again Iltisanni, thanks for spotting this for me. I have now amended the tables to correct this and also made them easier to view and sort. Cheers

  13. speedwayy November 9, 2012 at 6:26 pm

Could you please send me the excel sheet? I want to use it offline, to discover new players when i dont have internet connection, thanks a lot!

  14. Brent Curry November 9, 2012 at 6:47 pm

This is great stuff. Thank you or the work!

I am not sure what you had to do to get the data out of the system but I was wondering two things.

    a) First, I would love to get the raw data if you can share that
    b) Is there any way to get this data but specific to FUT players and include In-Form versions?

I’ve seen some pretty large differences in stats in at least a few instances

    • Ewan Currie November 10, 2012 at 3:05 am

Hi Brent. As I stated in the overview, the information was obtained from the PC version of Fifa 13. This involved extracting various files from the installation files and then building my own database from the content and importing the relevant information into Excel

I was unaware there were “large differences” in the stats, can you please back up your claims with examples?

At present I have no way to exclusively filter “FUT” data so I can not include in form players. If you let me know what you want to see in the tables I am happy to do this work for you.

      • brent Curry November 13, 2012 at 8:32 pm

        Ewan,

Yep I’ve been trying to find the players where the stats seemed strange. For some reason Soldado stands out in my mind (maybe Llorente as well I can’t recall now) but the stats look correct now the only discrepancy i see now would be how is it Soldado isn’t on the Top50 Headers page :-)

Any chance I can get a copy of the raw data that shows all the columns of stats per player? I love what you’ve done combining certain stats but sometimes I am finding that I wish more stats were on the page. For instance not being able to see Heading/Jumping stats on the ST/CF page has come up for me, or wanting to see Strength as well. The Top50 Headers tab has helped but I’m just the kind of guy who likes to play in the data sometimes.

    thanks

    Many thanks.

  20. Jake November 26, 2012 at 5:59 pm

This is a great idea and I loved it. Keep up the good work.

  21. Philipp November 29, 2012 at 2:17 pm

    Hello Ewan,
great work. Was thinking to do something alike, but since I only have the PS3 Version it would be a lot of work to get all the data out of the system. Is there a way you could send me the raw excel data? Or can someone else do that? I would like to include traits into the data and give them points to help me with my decisions.

    • Ewan Currie November 30, 2012 at 1:41 pm

Hi Philipp. Thanks for your feedback! To get the data into excel took a lot of work, and unfortunately I don’t have the trait information converted. I have the “raw” trait stats, but unfortunately this is just a long string number that I couldn’t easily correlate; even players with the same trait have a different number which I can’t work it out, and none of the database tables appear to contain information on these traits. To give you an example of what I mean, for a players preferred foot they either had a 1 or 2 in the database. I looked at Ryan Giggs, he has a 2, so I know all players with a 2 were left footed. The trait information is not that simple unfortunately. The numbers range from nul to 134545408. For the other stats I could find a table I needed to refer to so I could understand what this number meant, but as I said no such “traits” table appears to exist.

      • Philipp December 3, 2012 at 12:10 pm

        Hey Ewan,
at the moment I am doing the table all by hand – so anything you could provide me with would be greatly appreciated. I would probably type in the traits etc. by hand for the top players that I am interested in.

I can understand that you don’t want to give away the table that you worked so hard on, just to any stranger… I just want to make sure to build up a good squad at FUT :-) and because of my work, I don’t mind using large excel tables for that :-/

Anyway I think you did a great job. Maybe if you don’t want to share the raw excel sheet, you could just provide all the players with all stats and people could weight the corresponding attributes/skills etc. on their own, depending on their style of play. In an excel that would be pretty easy and from that point on noone would need the raw excel sheet anymore – and your homepage would probably get a lot of hits :-)

        Just as a thought…

  22. Sam December 4, 2012 at 5:08 am

    Hey Ewan,

I have been having such a tough time trying to sort out a dream team based on stats because it just not possible to filter based on specific stats.

i would love a copy of the raw data sheets so i can form my own overall ratings. Would you kindly forward me a copy.

I would be happy to give you my feedback as well once i have a look at it.

    Thanks a bunch

Sure you can filter on the stats, just click the down arrow next to the header. You have equal to, less than, greater than or any custom filter.

It’s the column called “Z Rating”, next to the FIFA overall rating. It’s highlighted in yellow, the green numbers indicate their Z Rating is higher than their FIFA rating, and red numbers is the opposite.

    • Ewan_Currie February 5, 2013 at 9:55 am

Hi, this was created when FIFA 13 was released. Player’s stats don’t change all that much, except for “In Forms” etc.

  31. stefan February 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm

Great work! I’m really going to test this on my FUT team!

I’ve one suggestion to make this better. Implement also other important stuff into your calculation like heigt, work-rate, weak-foot and skill level.
Because for example heigt is, in my opinion, one of the most important attributes for a keeper.

    • Ewan_Currie February 11, 2013 at 9:21 am

Hi Stefan. Thanks for your comments. I tired to stick to a limited number of attributes (4 primary and 5 secondary) so it was easy for people to understand the rating system. I agree that some of the “physical” stats can be important, but there are too many to include them all in the calculation. I agree that height can be important for a keeper, but I don’t agree that it’s 1 of the most important stats. De Gea is a decent goalkeeper in the game with a height of 192. Casillas is a tremendous keeper with only a height of 185.

If you let me know how you would like the stats calculated I would be happy to create a version for you. Let me know

  32. no skill just luck February 18, 2013 at 10:19 am

hopefully this helps but I’ve found out that the best rated team AND SUBS it’s this. squad: full toty 4-3-1-2 with messi as cf and Ronaldo as lf. subs: if ribery-91, if rooney-90, if ibrahimovic-89, if David silva-89, normal vidic-89, if thiago silva-88 and if fabregas.

Thanks for posting the File. Managed to Download the Fifa13_ZScore.xlsx from the post. I think you need to account for week foot for striker as a secondry rating may be a column AA2 ==IF(Y6>4,”100″,IF(Y6>3,”90″,IF(Y6>2,”80″,IF(Y6>1,”70″,”60″))))
