Wayne Rooney – 95

TOTY RooneyA personal favourite of mine from his Everton days Rooney has gone from strength to strength at Manchester United.  With his raw power and pace on the ball, coupled with his ability to pick a pass and shoot from distance, this in form powerhouse will certainly put the braun into any attacking line.

Although touted by Alex Ferguson as the Gascoigne of his generation because of his love hate relationship with the media his passion for the game can never be brought into question.

With Rooney publicly announcing his unhappiness at the lack of big stars coming to United and City allegedly waiting in the wings, could we see Wayne playing his football on the other side of Manchester soon?

For pure entertainment reasons (and slight sentimental value), UltimateFIFA’s pick of the strikers.

Lionel Messi – 98

TOTY MessiEASPORTS new face of FIFA Street has won the Ballon d’Or for an incredible third year in a row cementing his place in history as one of the best players of all time.  Messi’s future could have been very different though.  After learning his trade in Argentina Messi started suffering from a hormonal problem that affected his growth.

His club at the time, Newell’s old boys couldn’t afford to pay for his treatment and the Argentine clubs (including the larger teams like River Plate) refused to pay.   His parent’s were forced to travel to Spain and after impressing so much at a brief trial at Barcelona they decided to sign him and foot the bill for his treatment.  Messi has more than repaid them with his outstanding achievements and remarkable loyalty.

His runs from midfield are lethal and his close control, balance and speed on the ball make him almost impossible to tackle once he gets going.  His weaknesses (if you can call them that) are his lack of strength and tendency to try to finish off moves himself rather than spot a team-mate in a better shooting position.

Christiano Ronaldo – 96

Ronaldo was FIFA’s 2008 World Player of the Year after scoring a massive 42 goals in one season for Manchester United (from midfield!) and is not surprisingly back amongst the best once again although didn’t quite manage Messi off centre stage this time. (no doubt fueling the great “who’s best – Messi v Ronaldo” debate!)

His blistering pace and lightning fast footwork make him a defenders’ nightmare and his awesome finishing and the ability to take a mean free kick means he truly has the ability to win games by himself (something he’s had to do for Real Madrid a couple of times this season).

His tendency to do a trick when a simple pass is on and his going to ground a bit to easily at times has been known to wind up supporters but love him or hate him there’s no denying he’s one of the best players in the game.
