Are you a football purist? Do you relish realism? Are you a control freak? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions (and you haven’t done already) then you need to start using FIFA 12 manual controls!

Manual controls in FIFA 12 give you complete control over your game. They give you complete freedom to pass wherever and however you want.

Many people feel that FIFA 12’s assisted controls restrict their play. Assisted controls limit your play and your pass is only as good as the pass receiver’s run.

The beauty of manual controls is that you have full control over where you play the ball. Your passing’s completely independent from your team-mates movement and you can play the ball into space.

Admittedly, if you’ve never used manual controls before it’s a pretty steep learning curve but a very worthwhile one.

Those players that stick with practice and persevere really do get to play FIFA 12 in the purest, most rewarding way!

If you want to give it a go, this FIFA 12 Manual Controls Tutorial Series by FluorescentFIFA (make sure you sub!) is one of the most comprehensive on the interweb.

Well.gave this a go and works well,,,scored from 40 yards with ibarbo….however think I will drop it down to semi on passes,,,,manual through ball tears them apart aswell :)

Never played on manual before, as I was awful on assisted anyway, but I’ve enjoyed my afternoon on manual, I scored a low drive into the bottom corner and it did make feel like I had earned the goal and that it was more skill than luck.

I’m not sure how much manual I’ll use in pro clubs, i make stick a few things on semi.

Can see me using manual on more occasions, but probably more so offline for now.

These videos are great man, I had to figure out many of these things on my own or picking up tips here and there, but here you have every tip I’ve ever seen and then some. Great job, wish these videos had been around 2 years ago!

The only thing I’d add is that while playing assisted, many people develop the habit of aiming towards the player you’re passing the ball to, whereas in manual you need to shed that habit off and start thinking where you really want the ball to go. Many times you’ll be passing to feet, so no change there, but there are also many situations in which you’ll be passing into space because the receiving player is running in a given direction. When I first started with manual, there were many times when my passes ended up going behind the receiver, because I aimed at the player and by the time the ball got there, the receiver had to backtrack in order to trap the ball, which completely ruined the play, or the ball missed the player entirely and I lost possession. I had to change the way I though about passing

Playing Fifa on manual completely changed the experience for me, it’s like i’m playing an entirely different game, it’s more rewarding, more exciting and nothing beats that worm, fuzzy feeling that i get when i play a perfect through ball to my attacker to score a screamer of a goal. Fantastic! :)

    Nice work bro!

How can i find more people to play on manual.. it’s hard to find someone who plays manual on match lobbies.

    Do you have any tip!?

Excellent vids!! The shooting tips in particular are great. I’ve been playing FIFA for years now and have made the firm decision to go with FUMA this year. In fact, I wasn’t sure whether I was actually going to buy FIFA at all, but having watched these, I’m definitely going to.

I came across a comment from someone else (Radiodead) today, which opened my eyes to FUMA also and thought you might be interested as he’s talking about ways to use the buttons in an unorthodox manner to get an effect not possible with ‘Ass’ Controls –

“using the shoot button to drill a ball across pitch, pierce the defence..even using a lobbed shot for passing, long ball button to shoot, using the pass button when heading at goal, i scored a headed goal with villa using the pass button & the game registers it as a softer action than shoot button & villa leaned back & cushioned the header! Its also nice using the finesse shot to cross into box, adds more pace & curl.”

The curled cross and chipped shot to dink it over people I thought would be the most interesting/useful. In fact the dink shot may help with the chipped through-ball bug you mentioned.

how do i get to save the controller settings(i.e from manual to assisted) when i choose to play the FIFA 12 Demo??

  14. João October 21, 2012 at 12:14 am

I started playing manual last night and I jumped from 4 divison to 7 devision in one day. But I’m happy with that, because assisted is annoying when you hit the post like 5 times in a match.

So.. the only way to improve is practicing, even if you loose all the games in the beginning, hope it change soon.

Since you can place a normal pass anywhere. Is it still necessary the through passes?
