Ultimate Team Guide

Before I start this guide, let me introduce myself.  A keen FIFA player, I have been playing Pro Clubs and Ultimate Team since its birth in 09.  My clubs career may not be as successful as I would like but I have enjoyed playing with several people over at the FVPA (FIFA Virtual Pro Association) but if you have never played with me, maybe one day!

Ultimate Team I see as my forte.  If you’ve never played Ultimate Team before the best way I can explain the feature in a sentence is “A customized head-to-head.”

I’ll explain that briefly as well, head to head matches are something I’ve played a few times (15 wins no losses) and the customised element is simply you can buy anyone and put them into your side.  With head-to-head you’re restricted to a few quality sides to win games but with Ultimate Team the options are plenty.  I feel Ultimate Team is more rewarding to play and would highly recommend it to anyone and what’s there to lose?  It’s free.

FIFA Ultimate Team

Let’s start at the beginning.  You’ve got the starter pack filled with bronze talent.  If you’ve played previous “UT’s” you will receive 2 free gold packs, this was a massive help for me as I gained a few thousand coins and I was away.  With Ultimate Team nearing its end now, the players you would have received in those packs won’t be of a massive value now.

After looking at your side, chemistry is key.  Build a team around some players you have, this is my tip for part one.

Depending on how confident you are on your playing skills, either go for the easy option in a single player tournament or head online but only play teams around your chemistry and rating.

On average, you normally end up with 45-50 chemistry but after one game this can rise dramatically.  If playing online, a good solid win at a 1.0 DNF (will go into later) can raise around 700 coins.  A single player game can raise maybe 350-400 coins but your sure of a win and the morale of the side will rise, raising the confidence in side which produces better individual performances.

Playing the game is a separate guide within itself so after your first game, win or lose; you’ve received say 400 coins. If you have gone for the single player tournament, play all four games and you should have nearly 2000.  From that 2000 you can near enough build a full 100 chemistry bronze team which will be your money maker.

Something that has got me quick coins is going through this specific search:

  • Bronze
  • England
  • BIN (Buy it now): 150

If my maths is correct, 150 x 11 is 1650 coins meaning that after a single player tournament or 3 good wins online you can get this team.  I don’t recommend you go gold straight away, build a springboard for your team and then go out and buy the more extravagant player.

A formation I use is 4-3-3 but it’s all about personal preference and finding players/formation that suits your playing style.  I like wing play with both wingers having a small bit of pace.  Then a skilful element to this side with one technically gifted player to take control of set pieces etc.  At the back, I like there to be pace and strength to capitalise the threat of the mighty Agbonlahor and Bent combo, something you will get used to very early on.

Now you have your 11, here is mine:

Brad Harper's Ultimate Team

As you can see, I don’t need a manager to get that high chemistry saving money.  The chemistry can be higher than 89 its just players need resting.

A few players to recommend are the two CM’s on either side; Jason Kennedy and Johnnie Jackson are both fantastic players, Jackson in particular has a tremendous left foot and is my technically gifted set piece taker with 76 power and 68 Free Kick accuracy.

When playing this team, I highly recommend to stay away from the 64-64-64 bronze teams as normally they are filled with pace.  You will come across playing teams who have just started and you can easily exploit them by gaining easy wins.

“How can I get 1 million coins in a day?”

Yes, I know that some people might not agree with that but to get coins gaining better players, you have to maybe back out a few games against the better teams.  Now you’ve got through a tricky start I’m sure you’re wondering “How can I get 1 million coins in a day?”  Sorry, it’s not possible.  Making money requires three things:

  • Patience – Making small money can be made easily but waiting for that big deal takes time.
  • Luck – Sometimes, that card no one sees will appear in front of your eyes so take that risk and take it.
  • Knowing the market – After all this patience, you know the prices of players and you can see the bargain far quicker, just because the game is nearly at an end, it doesn’t mean bargains are not to be had.

I’ll leave you with a few links that will help you along your money making ways.  I will explain my methods in another “guide” but here are a few things that have really enlightened me on the market.

Firstly, we have the database. Personally, I’m not a massive fan but it does help.

Lastly, here is a man that I have called the “King of the trade pile.”  After recently completing his 1k to 100k in 1 day challenge, airjapesfifa is slowly taking the “community” by storm.  If you’ve not seen his videos then I highly recommend them.  As you may be on 1k I’ll show you Part 1, don’t worry its only 5 minutes long.

If your still reading then I would love some feedback and constructive criticism.

I hope to keep these coming quickly, so if any requests or feedback either leave a comment or contact me via twitter where I’ll get back to you fairly quickly.

Great first part to the guide Brad – looking forward to seeing what else is in store!

Controversial point about avoiding certain teams but I guess being mercenary is the quickest (if not the most ethical) way to making big coins.

    Interesting write up, Brad

Was wondering if you could offer some advice to someone like me, that’s not really into UT, but has tried it but interest often wanes, do you have any tips for me.

    Regards
    Mark

Try different squads, which keeps things fresh. I have around 7-8 cheap 15k squads and it’s always nice to play with a different set of players every other game.

Some interesting tips here, I’ve never had the patience to look for the best bronze English players so I’m going to look out for the two you suggested!

I’ve never come across that database before either, I’m sure that’ll come in handy over the next days as I get back into the swing of things.

    Cheers Brad, keep them coming.

They don’t need to be the best really, just the chemistry and the morale makes them play much better than the rating. The first few games will be the hardest, adapting to the speed of play and the passing especially.
